INSTALLING ADAPTER MACHINE PIN STRIPS

The extended pins on all Simtek adapters have a lot of tensile strength but are not very malleable (they don’t bend). This article shows the way to prevent breakage of those extended pins by using a machine pin ‘buffer’ strip (provided with each adapter.pcb). By installing these strips either into existing sockets on the MPU/CPU or by installing the strips onto the extended pins of the adapter before soldering those strips into a bare board. Examples of each shown below…

BUFFER STRIPS IN MACHINE PIN SOCKET

BUFFER STRIPS IN DOUBLE WIPE STYLE SOCKET

BUFFER STRIPS IN SCANBE TYPE SOCKET

PREFERRED METHOD IS TO INSTALL

BUFFER STRIPS ONTO ADAPTER. THEN

EITHER SOLDERING ASSEMBLY INTO

BARE BOARD OR INSERTING ASSEMBLY

INTO EXISTING SOCKET.
