INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BLACK BALLY BUTTON AND THE BALLY BOLT BLOCK

Bally’s “New Style” flipper assembly was first used in 1980 in the Rolling Stones game. Engineers were told to come up with a Linear Design plunger action using the same flipper platform stamping (but without the fiber link). They were after fewer moving parts, less wear. For the most part it worked as advertised but in time- a weak ‘link’ showed up. All the use/abuse was ending up on one part, the plastic bearing at the end of the flipper arm. This small item took the pounding from the plunger’s pull-in and return slams.

It was assumed that this part was replaceable but from day one of production it was never made/sold as a separate part. Even today it is only sold as part of the entire Flipper arm assembly ($13-$15). PIN-LOGIC is offering a (#6 NYLON) “Black Bally Button” to replace worn out units - without having to purchase the metal part that NEVER WEARS OUT!!!

To replace the old bushing………
Place the worn out plastic bushing over the (narrow opening) jaws of a vice and use a 1/8” drift punch (into the hollow end of the rivet) to hammer it out. OR ground both sides of the plastic bushing down to the metal surface of the arm and remove what’s left of the bushing and rivet. Clean up any burrs and drill the rivet hole out to 3/32 (allowing the 3-48 machine screw to pass thru the old rivet hole in the metal arm without binding). Slide the Black Bally Button onto the arm, (counter-sink facing up), and line up holes in the button and the arm. Thread in the 3-48 screw down to the bottom of button. Snug down but don’t over tighten the screw.
BALLY BOLT BLOCKS

There was always a need for a better holding system for their Flipper coil stop and Bally kept trying thru the years to find it. They increased the size of the hold down screws from 8/32” to an impressive 10/32” and increased the size of the coil stop bracket. But even then…… the coil stops were loosening up. The larger screws helped but the thin mounting plate had room for only 3 of the 32 threads. A simple answer was to add some thickness to the mounting plate for more threads and that’s what the Bally Bolt Block does…….Now-how to install a bolt block……

Drill out old screw holes to 3/16” (using saw blade under plate to protect playfield).

File off burrs from top and bottom of plate.

Slide Bally Bolt Block under flipper mounting plate (loosen/remove the screws mounting plate to playfield), use the ½” long 10/32 socket screws and lock washers (provided) to secure coil stop thru flipper mounting plate and into 8 threads of the bolt block.
NEXT ITEM FOR YOUR BALLY FLIPPER OVERHAUL……..

Slide tubing over arm and apply heat to shrink fit.
