INSTALLING A FIREPOWER SINGLE 2732 GAME ROM
This 4 Piece Chipset includes instruction for converting a Level 6 Wms Firepower CPU from 3 Bipolar Game roms into a single 2732 Eprom. Installing the "Test" (2716) IC14 game rom plus the new set of Green Flipper (IC 17 & IC20) Roms will establish that the CPU being converted is up and running. Only a working CPU can be converted to a Firepower CPU. There are several cuts and jumpers needed to make the conversion and troubleshooting a stock L6 CPU is hard enough without adding in all the extra Firepower mods on an untested CPU.
Photos show the steps needed to convert the CPU starting with some heavy trace cuts on the back of the board around pin 21 of IC 14. Purpose of these cuts is to isolate pin 21 from large 5 volt copper buss. Cuts on the right and left sides will leave a square pad around the pin. Also note pin 18 above pin 21, this will have a jumper added but doesn't require any cutting on the bottom side of the CPU.
The top of the CPU requires a trace cut just to the left of IC14 in front of pin 18. This cut is shown on schematic drawing and will isolate pin 18 of IC14. Check all isolation trace cuts with Ohm meter as they are done. Also circled on same drawing are jumpers J3 and J4. Both of these are to be removed. Solder jumpers to replace J3 & J4 are made as shown in photo below.
Final 2 jumpers go to IC 14 pins 21 and 18 on bottom of CPU. Pin 21 uses a short jumper wire that extends down to pin 37, (part of the 40 pin interconnector). Pin 18 jumper extends over to an empty Via pad (solder removed) which is directly above pin 23 of the 40 pin connector.
Install the IC 17 and IC 20 Green Flipper roms and the IC 14 2732 Firepower Game Rom.
